ABBA is a pop and dance group active between 1972 and 1982. The quartet was formed through the friendship of Benny Anderson and Bj"rn Ulvaeus and also consists of Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha F?ltskog. They topped the charts worldwide from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. ABBA received immense international popularity employing catchy song hooks, simple lyrics, and a Wall of Sound achieved by overdubbing the female singers' voices in multiple harmonies. As their popularity grew, they were sought after to tour Europe, Australia, and North America, drawing crowds of near-hysterical fans, notably in Australia during the tour there. They remain a fixture of radio play lists and are one of the world's best selling bands, having sold more than 370 million records world wide.
